The NYC Economic Development Corporation and elected officials convened a task force of local business owners and nonprofit leaders. Over six months in partnership with Studio V Architecture, we facilitated the task force process in monthly working sessions and helped the group, which held divergent views on exactly how the site should be reactivated, to reach consensus by focusing on shared goals for job quality, infrastructure investments and environmental impact.
During these meetings, we shared information on allowable uses of the site and facilitated small and large group activities to encourage transparent deliberation with regards to how the site should be reactivated. Throughout, we leveraged our keen understanding of the dynamics within the community and among the task force members to quickly develop strong relationships with key members to understand the shifting environment in Sunset Park.
Less than six months after we began, NYCEDC was able to issue a request for proposals to use the site that included the task force’s goals.
