As nature-based infrastructure investments grow across New York and beyond, a critical question emerges: are the communities most impacted by climate change also benefiting from the economic opportunity these projects create?
This webinar brings together community advocates, workforce developers, employers, and government partners to explore how cross-sector collaboration can build talent pipelines that advance both climate resilience and economic mobility – tracing the journey from a resident’s first entry point into a green career through to the employer and systems changes needed to sustain it.
Building on findings from our 2021 Opportunities for Growth: Nature-Based Jobs in NYC report, Principal Allison Quigney examines how trends in nature-based jobs are playing out five years later. New York City has a much stronger foundation for nature-based investment now, with new policies and programs directing resources toward climate-forward and green economy programs. At the same time, however, the workforce is seeing uneven job growth even in the midst of wage increases in public-sector occupations.
Through close examination of the current labor market, these expert panelists see that the opportunity now is to ensure that workforce development keeps pace with climate investment.
