Public Works Has Been Named Program Administrator of the NYCHA PACT Resident Planning Fund
Over the coming months, Public Works will initiate the development of the NYCHA PACT Resident Planning Fund. The Resident Planning Fund will provide residents at NYCHA developments preparing to undergo PACT conversions with funding for capacity building and technical assistance to advance their goals for their development. We, along with our partners LISC NYC, Public Policy Lab, and the Pratt Center for Community Development, are working to design a truly representative process, built from a foundation of resident needs. Through a multi-layered resident engagement and needs assessment approach, the Resident Planning Fund will provide $6 million of services directly to residents at PACT developments over the next 5 years. This will be a critical tool in ensuring high-quality, equitable, and sustainable public housing in New York City. We are honored to be leading this work and can’t wait to share it with you.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the nature of NYC’s streets is changing. From Open Streets to expanded bike lanes, these thoroughfares are increasingly viewed as spaces for gathering and everyday activism, in addition to transportation. The NYC Department of Transportation is in the process of designing the first-ever NYC Streets Plan, a five-year transportation plan to improve the safety, accessibility, and quality of the City’s streets for all New Yorkers. Given the changing demands on our streets, it is so important for everyone to get involved in this process. This is an opportunity to share your vision for the future of our streets, safety concerns, and your local expertise as a resident of your neighborhood. Public Works welcomes the latest additions to our Client Services team, Analysts Eeraj Junaid and Amairani Marin Tovar! Eeraj comes to Public Works from the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), where she coordinated the contracting process for ActionNYC, while Amairani joins us from Surfrider Foundation, where she developed recommendations to increase ocean access for BIPOC and noncoastal communities. They both bring significant community-building experience that will benefit our urban planning and management consulting practices. We are so excited to have them on board— please join us in welcoming them!

From procurement processes to management insights, Celeste Frye has many areas of expertise, and she is always eager to share. Over the past few months, she’s been featured in Authority Magazine, where she spoke to the challenges and opportunities of being a woman CEO in a male-dominated industry and in American City and County in an article exploring the future of procurement in public sector agencies. She also penned an article on key lessons municipalities should take away from the pandemic for American City and County.
