Maliya is a Marketing Coordinator on the Business Development team responsible for developing and executing designs solutions across various domains, including marketing, advertising sales, internal and external communications, and client deliverables. She supports the maintenance of the firm’s website and social media presence through the conceptualization and development of blog content covering both project updates and policy issues within New York City.
Prior to joining Public Works, Maliya gained valuable experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, focusing on internal communications, public outreach, VIP tours, and event coordination. During her time at NASA, she actively contributed to several public engagement initiatives for the Artemis II mission. Her involvement included writing feature articles and utilizing a range of multimedia strategies to enhance public awareness of NASA’s missions. Additionally, Maliya served as a Marketing Intern at the NASA Office of Small Business Programs, where she played a pivotal role in developing social media strategies to promote and integrate small businesses within the contractor and subcontractor network supporting the future of space exploration.
Maliya is a recent graduate of The New School, holding a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Global Studies, with a concentration in International Law and Creative Coding from Parsons School of Design. Her academic background has uniquely positioned her at the intersection of coding, design, and human rights. Maliya is recognized as a distinguished APIA Scholar and recipient of the Lang Global Studies Thesis Grant, which supported the completion of the second chapter of her thesis. Her research delves into the historical role of manuscripts and printing culture in transmitting scientific knowledge.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Maliya possesses a profound passion for journalism and design. Her overarching goal is to utilize her skills to amplify minority voices and empower Muslim women through her work.
